Soprano Edith Dowd sang with a beautiful fire in her voice. Her tone is magnificent, flexible, always on pitch, and consistent throughout all registers. Her voice is both mellow yet penetrating. Hopefully she will make many returns to the UAO stage. Her colleague onstage, Zeffin Quinn Hollis, was well matched vocally and dynamically. Perhaps his greatest gift to this production was a profound dramatic intensity brought to the role of Bluebeard. Both were convincing in their roles--right down to their facile command of Hungarian. The two made an impressive duo--and very believable.
